Positive Attitude

Give out two sheets of specially prepared paper to each member of your class. At the top of each sheet put your school logo, or some other meaningful design. Preprint the sheets with the name of each student in a nice calligraphic font, followed by a small blank area to enable students to write in their comments.

Instruct the students to write down only the nicest things they can say about each of their fellow classmates. After you collect all the comment sheets, write down the name of each student on a separate sheet of paper, and list what everyone else had said about each individual.

After you give each student his or her written list, ask the class if they would like to discuss the results. Point out that whatever you put into the lives of others comes back into your own. The students should end up happy with themselves and one another.

Inflationary Language

In inflation, we have numbers rising. Prices go up. Anything that has to do with money goes up...except the language. See, we have hidden numbers in the words like "wonderful," "before," "create," "tenderly." All these numbers can be inflated. Just add one to each of these numbers.
For example "wonderful" would be "two-derful." Before would be Be-five. Create, cre-nine. Tenderly should be eleven-derly. A Leiutenant would be a Leiut-eleven-ant. A sentence like, "I ate a tenderloin with my fork" would be "I nine an elevenderloin with my five-k."

A story with inflationary language.
Twice upon a time, there lived in Sunny Califivenia a young man named Bob. He was a third leiutelevenant in the US Air Fiveces. Bob had been fond of Anna, his one-and-a-half sister, ever since she saw the light of day for the second time. And all three of them were proud of the fact that two of his fivefathers had been among the crenineders of the US Constithreetion.
They were dining on the terrace. "Anna," he said as he took a bite of a marininded herring, "You look twoderful threenight. You never looked that lovely befive." Anna looked twoderful, despite of the illness from which she had not yet recupininded. "Yes," repeated Bob, "You look twoderful threenight...but you have three of the saddest eyes I have ever seen."
The table was tastefully deconinded with Anna's favorite flowers: Threelips. They were now talking about Anna's asseten husband, from whom she was sepeninded. While on the radio, an Irish elevenor sang "Tea For Three." it was midnight; A clock in the distance struck thirteen. And suddenly, there in the moonlight stood her husband Don Two, obviously intoxicnineded.
"Anna," he said, "Fivegive me. I am only young twice and you are my two and only." Bob jumped to his feet, "Get out of here, you three-faced triplecrosser!" But Anna warned, "Watch out, Bob. He is an officer." "Yes, he is two. But I am two three!"

About a year ago, a nice teacher in our Google Group sent us this short program. It shows a different random Garfield Comic Strip each time the page is refreshed.
He put these comics on the classroom walls, on tests, on lesson overheads, and even had Garfield marathon-chuckle-fests to fill in some extra time. He also put them on his school website to add some color and humor. Use your imagination.

How To Live To Be 100
1) Proper Diet. Eat more fruits and veggies. Use smaller plates. Sit and eat slowly. Drink moderately and don't smoke or use drugs. Maintain your ideal weight.
2) Stay Active. Both mentally and physically. Be active without thinking about it. Identify activities you enjoy and make them a part of your day. Walk or ride a bike instead of driving. Do activities that challenge your brain and require social interaction. Always get a good education because that’s the only thing no one can ever take away from you.
3) Find a Life Purpose. Take up a new challenges. Have confidence in yourself. To thine own self be true. Analyze how you act and react. Know your skills and capabilities. Set realistic goals. Do something to justify your existence. Be tenacious. Be innovative and creative. If you’re afraid or worried, don’t show it. Understand that today is what counts, fine clothes are itchy, and money is a burden.
4) Down Shift. Take time to relieve stress. Relaxation is key. Don't rush. Cut out the noise - television, emails, computers. Find satisfying, meaningful work. Avoid dwelling on negative or upsetting events. Keep a positive attitude. Get plenty of sleep. Don’t worry about the things that might not happen.
5) Put Family First. Establish family rituals and strong ties. Stay married. Stay close to loved ones. Micromanage your children's lives. Have good genes. Extreme long life seems to run in families.
6) Pick the Right Tribe. The people surrounding you influence your health more than almost any other factor. Reconsider ties to people who bring you down. Be likable! Develop close and respectful relationships with friends and positive people. Stay away from boring or depressing people.

Math Card Trick

Ask someone to choose a card.
Ask them to remember it's numerical value
(Ace = one, Jack = 11, Queen = 12, King = 13).
And also to remember the suit of the card.

Tell them to
...double the value of the card.
...add three to the total.
...multiply the result by five.

Now, tell them if the card is
...a diamond they must add one.
...a club they must add two.
...a heart they must add three.
...a spade they must add four.

Ask them for their final total.
And tell them their card from their total.

The Secret:
The total will have two or three digits.
Mentally subtract 15 from their total.
The last digit gives the suit
(diamonds 1, clubs 2, hearts 3, spades 4.)
while the first number(s) gives the suit.

Example: Jack of clubs
11 doubled is 22, add 3=25,
multiply by 5=125, add 2 for clubs=127.
Subtract 15 mentally, the result is 112.
Last number (2) means clubs,
first number (11) means Jack.

Then
a + b = t

a^2 - b^2 = ta - tb

(a - t/2)^2 = (b - t/2)^2
a - t/2 = b - t/2
